JUNIOR JCCA TENNIS RULES 2000

1.          All matches will be played and completed each Monday and Thursday.  Due to inclement weather, matches should be played before the last scheduled date.  Once a rainout date has been set, it must be played on that day except for rain or by mutual agreement of both teams.  If any matches have started with at least one point scored and the match is stopped due to inclement weather, the dual match format, including defaults, CANNOT be changed on the make-up date.  If no points have been scored, the format may be changed, on the make-up date, including originally defaulted matches.  The schedule for playing matches is as follows, with the exception of the 18-year-olds.  They may, with mutual agreement, play between 7am-11am according to court availability (no bumping).

10:00 AM        -    12 yr old

11:00 AM        -    10 yr old

 

2.          A meet shall consist of twenty matches as follows:

3.          The four- (4) point scoring system will be used in all matches.  No exceptions.  If the score becomes 3-3, the receiving team has the option of receiving the serve in either the forehand or the backhand court

 

4.          The 12-point tiebreaker will be used in all 6-6 situations.

 

5.          Ten and under matches will consist of one set.  If the set score reaches 6-6, the tiebreaker will determine the winner.

 

6.          Twelve and fourteen year olds will play two regular sets and, if needed, a 3rd set will consist only of a tiebreaker with NO break after the 2nd set. The score of this 3rd set tiebreaker will be recorded as "7-6."  Sixteen and eighteen year old matches will consist of two out of three sets with ten minutes rest between the 2nd and 3rd set.  The tiebreaker will be used at 6-6 in every set.

 

7.          If a team defaults a match, the match is scored 6-0, 6-0, with the exception of the 10-year-olds which will be scored 6-0, in favor of the opposing team.

 

8.          If a match ends in a tie, (i.e. 10-10) the match will be won by the team with the fewest number of games lost.

 

9.          The tennis courts of both clubs will be used for a meet between the clubs.  Each club will furnish one new can of balls per court used each playday.

 

10.      The host club must supply qualified callers, at least thirteen years of age, for the 10-yr. old matches.  Callers must not make the decision of choice of side or serve.  Decision is up to the players.  Callers will use a score sheet.  Role of Caller:  caller overrules only when asked.

11.      No match is official unless represented by an adult club representative from the host club at all times.  No coaching of any kind will be allowed from the sidelines.  If coaching continues after 1st warning, point penalty system will be in effect. (Rule 18).

 

12.      All players must serve from behind the baseline.  Foot faults will be warned.

 

13.      Line-up must be called in to the coach of the opposing team by 6:00 the day prior to play date.  The host coach calls the opposing team for line-up and the opposing team gives the line-up FIRST.

 

14.      A player may participate for only one club per season and must be a dues-paying member in good standing of his/her respective club.

 

15.      SPECIAL ATTENTION TO THIS RULE AS PER USTA RULES

A child may play in the age group according to his age on or after August 1, 2000.   Of course, any player may move up to an older bracket if he/she chooses, or if the need arises.

 

16.      ELGIBILITY OF THE MEET OF CHAMPS:

A.    Must participate in two of the dual meets.  One of these matches must be an actual match played; the other can be earned by playing another match or from receiving two defaults.  In this case two defaults equal one match played.

 

B.    Any player may move up to an older age bracket.  Player must play at least one match in their own age bracket in order to play in the Meet of Champs in that age bracket; but may move up, regardless of the number of matches played in an upper age group (including none).

 

C.    Meet of Champs format will be double elimination draw.  Each participating individual (or team in the case of doubles) must supply one can of new balls for the Meet of Champs.

17.      Representatives of each club must present a result sheet to the scorekeeper after each dual meet.  Please include both boys and girls results. Results for Monday and Thursday must be mailed or faxed on Thursday afternoon every week!!!  Default will occur if rule is not followed and will affect players' eligibility for the Meet of Champs.

 

18.      The following point penalty system will be used for unsportsmanlike conduct.  The adult representative from the host club will strictly enforce this rule.

*** If any problems arise concerning line calls or foots faults, a caller from the host club will be placed on the court.  The caller will have the final decision as to calls, warning and penalty points in accordance with U.S.T.A. rules. 

 

19.      In order for a club to participate in the junior tennis league, there must be a dues-paying member as the club representative on the junior committee.

 

20.      The chairperson of Junior Tennis Program shall rotate yearly from club to club with the larger clubs being responsible for the Meet of Champs Tournament and the smaller clubs rotating responsibility for league play.  The larger club hosting the Meet of Champs is responsible for hosting the Meet of Champs draw meeting the Thursday night before the start of the Meet of Champs Tournament. They are also responsible for ordering MOC T-shirts and ordering the MOC trophies/ plaques at the beginning of the summer.  The smaller club is responsible for hosting the initial meeting in April or May and if no one volunteers, they are responsible for being the "official scorekeeper of the league."  This rotation to be announced.
